Sarissaprobes enter the kidney

In a departure from applications of our biosensors to Neuroscience, researchers in the Medical College of Wisconsin have used ATP and Null sarissaprobes to record ATP release and peroxide production in the kidney. This is the first published work using Sarissa's biosensors in the kidney.

In their recent paper "Real-time electrochemical detection of ATP and H2O2 release in freshly isolated kidneys" in the American Journal of Physiology, Renal Physiology, the authors looked at the development of salt-sensitive hypertension in salt-sensitive rats. Their results demonstrate an important role for ATP and H2O2 signalling in the development of this hypertension.
